Description
Summary:This article explores the transformative potential of technology to enable global consciousness, specifically looking at social media as a facilitator of global spirituality. Drawing upon the realms of spirituality, consciousness, and organizational communication, we use social listening as a tool to explore how online discussions on social media networks foster an environment for individuals to engage in meaningful exchanges related to spirituality, faith, religion, higher power, and the quest for well-being. By examining the unique attributes of social media platforms, such as global reach, inclusivity, and instant connectivity, we argue that these digital spaces hold immense potential for the cultivation of a global experience of spirituality and for employers to participate in these conversations as a way to build a sense of well-being at work, and build loyalty through shared values with customers. Through the lens of the uses and gratifications theory, this article investigates the implications, challenges, and opportunities that arise in the context of spirituality and its interaction with online discourse. Finally, we propose future directions for research and practice in harnessing the power of social media to foster a more interconnected and spiritually engaged global community in order to engage employees and customers in more loyal and trusting relationships.
