Description
Summary:This article studies certain aspects of the History of the Chichimec Nation written by the castizo chronicler Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxóchitl in the early seventeenth century in colonial Mexico, and focus on his historical narrative in which two holy apostles appear, Saint James and Saint Thomas, in order to analyze the complexity of the information contained in this chronicle. It will be shown that, despite being considered an "indigenous chronicler", Alva Ixtlilxóchitl also knew and/or used Spanish sources, to present a historical interpretation of his own. This article also elaborates in a brief reconsideration about historiographic studies and point out that we need to clarify further relationships and interrelationships among different genres of historiographic works in New Spain.
