Description
Summary:Hans Jonas’ philosophy of biology merits to be taken into account as an original contribution to contemporary debates on humankind’s place in nature. Far from being opposed to the natural sciences, it can be read as an attempt at reconciling the natural scientific outlook with a non-reductionist philosophical ontology. My contribution falls into three parts regarding 1) Jonas’ critique of various forms of ontological reductionism, 2) his analysis of corporeality as the paradigm of the psycho-physical unity of being, and 3) the innovative – and, of course, problematic – aspects of Jonas’ philosophy of the body.
