In the 1930’s and 1940’s, two catholics from Pernambuco, Manuel Lubambo and Luiz Delgado, for different reasons, changed their “ethos”. Lubambo moved from the authoritarianism of Vargas to that of Salazar and Delgado left the same authoritarianism for the democracy of Jacques Maritain. This article tries to explain these changes using the position of Clifford Geertz. |
