Summary: | This note seeks to explore the extent to which clergy in the Church of England and the Methodist and Roman Catholic Churches exhibit professionalism, as measured by the Hall professionalism scale. By and large, the findings are negative, in that a factor analysis reveals a poor "fit" between the theoretical dimensions which underpin the scale and the resultant factor structure for each group of clergy. The implications of the findings for the sociological analysis of the clergy as a profession are briefly explored. |
