| Zusammenfassung: | Este ensaio discute as relações entre puritanismo e fundamentalismo no protestantismo, mormente nos EUA, e apresenta, em diálogo com a literatura estadunidense do século XIX, aspectos da condição feminina em contextos sociais organizados segundo a ética puritana no século XVII. Esta condição é considerada aqui como precursora daquela vivida pelas mulheres em contextos religiosos puritano-fundamentalistas do final do século XIX até o presente. This article discusses the relations betweenPuritanism and Fundamentalism in Protes-tantism, mainly in the USA, and introduces, indialogue with the 19th century American literature, some aspects of the feminine conditionin social contexts organized according to thePuritan ethics of the 17th century. This condition is considered here as precursory of thecondition lived by these women in Puritan Fundamentalist religious contexts from theend of the 19th century to the present day |
