Description
Summary:Starting from the particular historical relationship between religion and innovation and from the reasons which have made these two concepts incompatible with each other in western modernity, this essay tries to show a possible reconciliation. Niklas Luhmann’s systemic approach, the idea of functional differentiation, and contin-gency as the main characteristics of our society seem to offer the best tools to foster, on the one hand, a «function of religion» which is less confessional, innovation-friendly, and focused on God and, on the other, a perspective capable of avoiding the risk that innovation becomes a form of religion in our society.
