| Résumé: | A religião não abandonou a esfera pública, mas continua desempenhando um papel nela, ainda que seja um papel ambivalente e cambiante. A teologia pública pretende oferecer orientação para uma contribuição crítica e construtiva das igrejas na esfera pública que procure evitar tanto excesso quanto insuficiência. Como exemplos de contribuições bem-sucedidas e malsucedidas se enfocam principalmente o Brasil, a África do Sul e a Escócia e seus teólogos reformados. Com a fundação da Rede Global de Teologia Pública em 2007, promovida principalmente por esses teólogos, inaugurou-se uma nova rodada de exploração do conceito de teologia pública e de suas implicações “glocais” [globais + locais]. O artigo entende a teologia pública, em tese, como confissão franca, explicação da missão da igreja, à qual ela permanece vinculada, orientando-se, ao mesmo tempo, pela cruz e sendo, por isso, quenótica; trata-se, por fim, de uma teologia preocupada com o bem-estar da comunidade muito além de suas fronteiras. Religion has not abandoned the public sphere, but continues to play a role in it, even if it is ambivalent and changing. Public Theology seeks to offer orientation for a critical and constructive contribution of the churches in the public sphere which is neither excessive nor insufficient. As examples of well and badly succeeded contributions, attention is being given to Brazil, South Africa and Scotland with their respective Reformed theologians. With the founding of the Global Network of Public Theology in 2007, promoted especially by these theologians, a new round of exploration of the concept of public theology and its “glocal” implications has been opened. The present article understands Public Theology as a sincere confession, explication of the church’s mission, to which it remains connected, being oriented, at the same time, by the cross and being, for this reason, kenotic; it is, finally, a theology that cares for the well-being of the community, far beyond its own boundaries.
