| Summary: | This paper talks about the contemporary connotations of Balkan Islam thought a critical approach that aims to propose a new methodological approach. Disclosing the stereotypes towards Balkan historically grounded in occidental culture, this work analyses the global and regional dynamics that affect the region, such us other Islamic countries; but contemporary, it holds some historical and social specificities such us post-socialist legacy, European integrationist ambitions and post-ottoman belonging. Anyway, the Balkans constitute an active part of Mediterranean Islam, intended as symbolic space and social-cultural interaction between networks, actors and objects that does not necessarily overlook the sea. |
