The Process of Change of Epistemological Views of Religion, a Critical Reflection, and a Direction for New Descriptions: Focusing on the Religious Description of the 1907 Pyongyang Revival Meeting

| Summary: | 본 논문의 목적은 그동안 평양부흥회 서술에 나타난 종교 인식의 변화 과정을 추적하고, 그에 대한 비판적 성찰 및 새로운 서술 방향을 모색하는 것이다. 따라서 본 논문은 다음의 연구 절차를 따른다. 첫째, 2장은 앞서 언급한 연구 시기의 대상들의 서술에서 나타난 종교 인식의 변화 과정을 추적한다. 이를 위해 종교에 대한 인식론적 관점 즉 그들이 사용한 종교의 개념과 범위는 무엇이며, 그러한 그들의 인식과 관련된 종교학적 전제들이 무엇인지 집중한다. 둘째, 3장은 앞서 도출된 인식의 변화 과정에 대해 비판적 성찰을 시도한다. 셋째, 4장은 앞서 도출된 비판적 성찰을 토대로 평양부흥회의 종교 서술을 새롭게 모색한다. 특히 3장과 4장의 논의를 위해 최근 한국 종교와 종교학의 연구 성과의 도움을 얻었다. 다섯째, 끝으로 본 논문의 논의를 정리하고, 필자의 견해와 본 논문의 공헌과 추후 과제를 다루고자 한다. This paper traces and critically reflects on the change process of epistemological views of religion and explores a direction for new descriptions of the 1907 Pyongyang revival meeting and religions (hereafter PRM and religions). In the first section, I will analyze the change process of the epistemological views of religion in the selected research, applying an epistemological view of religion-which consists of religious concepts, religious categories, and religious assumptions-and dividing the analysis into two periods: before the Korean liberation (1907-1945) and after (1945-2007). In the second section, I will organize and detail the perception of Korean religions in the selected research. Section Three will reflect on the previous research, and Section Four will explore how one can develop a direction for new descriptions of the PRM and religions. Recent works of religious studies/Korean religions are employed in Sections 3 and 4. The conclusion will deal with my opinion, this paper’s contributions-which are related to reflecting on and suggesting a new direction for the religious descriptions of the PRM and religions-and its limitations. |
