Description
Summary:Between the late 1700s and early 1800s the Islamic countries in the Mediterranean region seem to re-discover the West as a new and surprising otherness. The perception of a clear scientific and technological gap stimulates interest in the social and political structures of the European countries. In this first stage, however, an interest in dialogue prevails more than the demarcation of borders. In Tunisia, specially, the reformists of the nineteenth century look to Europe as a source of inspiration compatible with the Arab and Islamic values.
